چکیده

A multistep flux-corrected transport (MFCT) scheme is developed to achieve conservative and monotonic tracer transports for multistep dynamical cores. MFCT extends Zalesak twotime level scheme to any multistep time-differencing schemes by including multiple highorder fluxes in the antidiffusive flux, while computing the two-time level low-order monotone solution. The multistep time-differencing scheme used in this study is the third-order Adams–Bashforth (AB3) scheme implemented in a finite-volume icosahedral shallowwater model. The accuracy of AB3 MFCT is quantified by the shape-preserving advection experiments in non-divergent flow, as well as a cosine bell whose shape changes during advection in shear flow. AB3 MFCT has been shown to be insensitive to time step size. This make AB3 MFCT an attractive transport scheme for explicit high resolution model applications with small time step. MFCT is tested in shallow-water model simulations to demonstrate that the use of MFCT maintains positive-definite tracer transport, while at the same time conserving both fluid mass and tracer mass within round-off errors in the AB3 dynamic core. A Flux-Corrected Finite Element Method for Chemotaxis Problems

An implicit flux-corrected transport (FCT) algorithm is developed for a class of chemotaxis models. The coefficients of the Galerkin finite element discretization are adjusted in such a way as to guarantee mass conservation and keep the cell density nonnegative. The numerical behaviour of the proposed high-resolution scheme is tested on the blow-up problem for a minimal chemotaxis model with si...

An Incremental Remapping Transport Scheme on a Spherical Geodesic Grid

Weather and climate models contain equations for transporting conserved quantities such as the mass of air, water, ice, and associated tracers. Ideally, the numerical schemes used to solve these equations should be conservative, spatially accurate, and monotonicity-preserving. One such scheme is incremental remapping, previously developed for transport on quadrilateral grids. Here the increment...

A flux-corrected transport algorithm for handling the close-packing limit in dense suspensions

Convection of a scalar quantity by a compressible velocity field may give rise to unbounded solutions or nonphysical overshoots at the continuous and discrete level. In this paper, we are concerned with solving continuity equations that govern the evolution of volume fractions in Eulerian models of disperse two-phase flows. An implicit Galerkin finite element approximation is equipped with a fl...

Numerical Simulation of Chemotaxis Models on Stationary Surfaces

In this paper we present an implicit finite element method for a class of chemotaxis models, where a new linearized flux-corrected transport (FCT) algorithm is modified in such a way as to keep the density of onsurface living cells nonnegative. Level set techniques are adopted for an implicit description of the surface and for the numerical treatment of the corresponding system of partial diffe...

Failsafe flux limiting and constrained data projections for systems of conservation laws

A new approach to flux limiting for systems of conservation laws is presented. The Galerkin finite element discretization / L2 projection is equipped with a failsafe mechanism that prevents the birth and growth of spurious local extrema. Within the framework of a synchronized flux-corrected transport (FCT) algorithm, the velocity and pressure fields are constrained using node-by-node transforma...
